Sculture Grafiche

The works of 1997 (the wooden small pizzas), which I could define graphic sculptures, are the result of a drawing on paper, which is subsequently counter founded by an irregular cylinder (crooked) of medio dens.

The cylinder, on which the drawing is based, contributes, thanks to its volumetric thickness, to the volumetric strengthening of the hyper - plasticity of the design itself, which would

have the claim to force or even overcome their own peculiar two-dimensionality. This cylinder, moreover, is a sort of reification of the shadow projected by the head, tangible, palpable with the hands, with the fingers or better... with the eyes. These small pizzas are almost always contained in a black box that serves as a dark setting, a kind of room or, let 's say, setting in a Caravaggio-like shadow.

On the site, these graphic sculptures were photographed both in small groups of 2 or 3, but also installed and photographed all in a single set. In this collective photographic reproduction the faces seem to have a single common black background, while each head lives inside its own box. The boxes are painted black to create a scenic space made of shade. The black of the background gives a dramatic emphasis but the black paint is bright and sparkling; the presence of the light transforms black into color of light then, struck by the light, the paint glitters, making a sort of star of light appear in the edges.
In order to reconstitute the significance of the spatial structure of the installation in the photographic documentation, it was essential to retouch the photo by adding in copy and paste mode the starry luminescence that mark the scenic space in which the heads are installed.

The stars were taken from a graphic sketch drawn on wallpaper in which the stereographic sequence of twenty-five heads is interspersed with luminescence drawn in the shape of a star.
